In this, the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence, The London International Ska Festival returns to the capital from Thursday 3rd– 6th May 2012 and promises 40 acts from around the world. From its birth in Jamaica, Ska has come a long way – morphing and inspiring every generation and reaching all corners of the world. In association with Academy Events, the festival line up will showcase all Ska has to offer from its roots in rhythm and blues, mento and calypso, to the Jamaican originators, the progression through rocksteady and reggae, 2 Tone, ska-punk and right up-to-date with 21st century Ska sounds.

The top five choices from each award category will be shortlisted for a final round of voting lasting from 1st May to 1st August 2012.

The Awards themselves will take place at London’s Indigo2 on 13th October 2012.

The BRIAs are the brainchild of veteran radio DJ Tony Williams and have been resurrected with the help of his daughter Tracey. They began in 1981 but ceased in 1997 with the rise of the less specialist MOBO Awards.

It is an international project putting together conscious artists from different places of the world. Deejay master Solo Banton from United Kingdom, Jamaican singer Rueben Mystic, Trinidadian vocalist Juakali living in LA, young African lioness Dada Afrik & Kalcia and a talented bobo dread Fireson all from Nairobi (Kenya).

Vocals on this heavy weight one way riddim have been recorded at various places and under various conditions. All started at home base studios Gunjah and Mustakillah in Czech, went to Conscious Sounds in London and finally moved to Nairobi with Syncro’s mobile studio. Final mix and different arrangements for each tune by Syncro and Mustakillah Sound put together original sound of the record. Although from different backgrounds, the artists came out united on this release, with word, sound and power burning down the Babylon.
